Phygital robotics upskilling: start in simulation, apply on real robots

PhygiTrain is an Innosuisse Innovation Booster Robotics project that targets the development of a phygital (physics+digital) robotics education platform for industrial upskilling.

The project demonstrated a practical, browser-based training approach based on RCFS, developed at the Idiap Research Institute.

Participants can start remotely in simulation, build confidence and skills, and then transfer that knowledge directly to real robots at the Swiss Cobotics Competence Center (S3C). This creates a flexible, accessible, and industry-relevant pathway for robotics upskilling, with no installation required.

The results of this project were validated during workshops led by Sylvain Calinon and Daniel Schlecht at the International Humanoid Forum in Biel in 2026, with strong engagement and valuable feedback from participants.

We believe phygital training has strong potential to make robotics upskilling more accessible, relevant, and effective for industrial needs.
